The Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences, located on the ground floor of Doctor Sagaz Hospital, has set up a waiting room for family members accompanying the body of a deceased person who, for various reasons, needs an autopsy. An “essential” intervention that corresponds to the humanization of the public health system that the Andalusian Health Service undertakes.
The regional representatives of Health and Consumption and Justice, Local Administration and Public Work, respectively, Elena González and Javier Carazo, visited this new space this Thursday, together with Javier Vadillo, Managing Director of the Jane University Hospital; Director of Economic, Administrative and General Services, Avelino Rodriguez and Director of IML, Maria del Carmen Lopez.
The room, which was formerly part of a warehouse attached to the hospital cafeteria, has been completely renovated. Thus, we have intervened in the wall covering, creating a new separation with the cafeteria area; On the ceiling, installing a removable plaster ceiling, and on the floor, which is covered with vinyl flooring. Additionally, the room has been completely painted, as well as the front door.
Likewise, and as measures to improve energy efficiency, new LED light screens and associated emergency screens, as well as independent air conditioning and heat pump air conditioning machines have been installed.
In the case of exterior entrance doors, the old door glass has also been replaced with new reinforced glass; Opaque glass, existing access to the interior of the building, and double glazed glass in the windows.
With the aim of making the stay as comfortable as possible, in addition to six new large-capacity armchairs and other elements, two vending machines for food, drinks, coffee and infusions have been placed. Likewise, the adjoining bathrooms have been adapted, providing one of them with the necessary elements for use by people with reduced mobility.
In parallel with the work in the room, the existing access steps to that area and both the tumulus and the autopsy room have been demolished and replaced with reinforced concrete ramps. Along with this, the width of the space has also been doubled, so that funeral home vehicles can drive up to the door, to facilitate the transportation of coffins. The existing railings have also been renovated.
