Issste coordinates the first acupuncture and moxibustion seminar | State Institute of Workers’ Safety and Social Services | Govt

The event is coordinated by the Acupuncture Service of the “20 de Noviembre” National Medical Center. There are 73 registered participants with profiles of doctors who are experts in the subject, masters in acupuncture and moxibustion with guidance in traditional Chinese medicine, bachelors in rehabilitation human acupuncture, who belong to 15 public institutions of the health system in Mexico, such as the Secretariat of Health, the Secretariat of National Defense (Cedena ), the Secretariat of the Navy (Semar), the National Polytechnic Institute (IPN), Issste and the Secretariat of Health of Mexico City (Cedesa).

The seminar is taught in its online mode by specialized staff from the Beijing Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine. It will take place from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm Mexico time in 15 sessions scheduled on the Voov meeting platform from January 3 to 23, he added.

The head of Issste recalled that the agreement was signed on September 4, with the aim of establishing the foundations and cooperation mechanisms so that, according to their strengths, both organizations can plan, design, implement and evaluate cooperation programs in the humanitarian sector. Acupuncture and health-related systems, which enable the exchange of experts, the development of scientific research, academic training and clinical application.

Since 2001, with the creation of the Human Acupuncture Service at the “20 de Noviembre” National Medical Center, this therapeutic technique and related methods have been studied, as they are useful and complementary to health care. It has been recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO) as a traditional medicine strategy.

The conditions most frequently treated by the Human Acupuncture Service are: cervical disc and radiculopathy, lumbar disc disorders and radiculopathy; Anxiety and depression, of the temporomandibular joint, as well as cervicalgia, fibromyalgia, non-organic insomnia, bilateral primary gonarthrosis, back pain, arthritis, painful shoulder abduction, sequelae of cerebrovascular events, among others.

It is relevant to mention that, currently, this technique is only provided as palliative care services at the Institute at CMN “20 de Noviembre” and at the Regional General Hospital (HR) “Ignacio Zaragoza”, which positions Issste as the main one.
