Information from Banco Metropolitano on sending remittances to Cuba
Due to technical difficulties on the island, the situation of sending remittances to Cuba is getting complicated these days. Hence, the authorities of the Metropolitan Bank (BM) of Havana, with more than one million customers in the Cuban capital, released this information.
The financial entity elaborated that “if you have money sent by a remittance agency (transfer from abroad), we suggest that you contact Fincimex, the agency that manages this service in Cuba, by phone number 7220-1199 or in your profile from Facebook” .
An anomalous situation has affected remittances sent to Cuba for several days, as payments to recipients have been disrupted due to technical problems that have not been clarified by the competent authorities. At least on this occasion, BM provided a little more guidance on where to direct user complaints about delays in remittances these days.
However, the situation remains unresolved and hundreds of Cuban families who rely on remittances from abroad remain unable to collect the money.
What’s going on with remittances to Cuba these days?
Consumers waiting for their money to be deposited on bank cards by sending agencies like Tokope still don’t get a definitive answer. Financiera Cimax, a platform associated with managing deposits, said there was no specific date for the problem to be resolved.
They added that they are working hard and hope to get good news this week. Earlier, Fincimax had promised a resolution for the weekend and then this Monday, February 5. But no one has found a solution.
In this situation, the remittance giant, Western Union, temporarily suspended sending money from the United States to Cuba from February 1, 2024. Now they pointed out that the compensation will not be available until April.
