A piece of rock crashed into the sea and a luxurious villa that finds itself on the edge of the void: in California, the small coastal town of Dana Point is the scene of a fascinating scene after last winter’s storm. The landslide occurred after torrential rains lashed the “Golden State” last week.
As a result, three multi-million dollar residences are now flirting with vacancy in this grand location south of Los Angeles. But, surprisingly, these properties are still livable. Authorities and engineers assured homeowners that their homes, whose foundations are anchored in bedrock, would not end up in the Pacific below.
One house owner, Louis Brugmann, assured local media that despite the sudden disappearance of a large part of the land behind his villa, his house “is not under threat and will not be declared deserted”.
“There is no imminent danger”
A violent storm hit California last week. The deluge killed at least nine people in the state and was notable for significant flooding and landslides in the Los Angeles region.
At Dana Point, the rockfall a few days ago, with a huge pile of earth and rocks falling into the sea, is still a wonder, an AFP photographer noted on Thursday.
