G2 Esports took on Fnatic this week 3 of the LEC Winter Split

Week three of the LEC Winter Split continues with an important matchup between G2 Esports and Fnatic. At the end of a very intense and action-packed encounter, it was G2 who managed to gain the upper hand, thanks in particular to Caps in great form and Hans Sama who ended the game with a magnificent pentacle.

A victory and a pentacle

Week three of the LEC Winter Split 2024 continues to enthrall with its second day of competition, and among the scheduled clashes, the match between G2 Esports and Fnatic stands out as a highlight. The encounter is something of a classic, reminiscent of the 2023 LEC Season Finals, and promises to be an electric clash between two giants of European esports. This match between G2 Esports and Fnatic is not just a clash between two title contenders, but a test of strength before the start of the playoffs.

G2 Esports, currently in second place overall and tied with SK Gaming, have won five of their seven matches so far. Building on a win over the GiantX the day before, Caps and his teammates have already secured their spot in the playoffs. The team, known for its dynamic style of play and innovative strategies, will look to maintain its momentum and strengthen its position ahead of the playoff stages.

For Fnatic, fourth with four wins in seven matches, tied with MAD Lions KOI and Team Heretics, the situation is equally promising. Despite the loss against MAD Lions KOI a day ago, their qualification for the playoffs is already in their pocket. Fnatic, a team with a reputation for fighting spirit and strong performances under pressure, will no doubt be eager to prove their worth against a marquee opponent like G2 Esports.

What do G2 and Fnatic have in common?

The game starts at a very aggressive pace, with both teams looking to capitalize from the start of the laning phase. After an intense early game, the game settles down somewhat, with teams taking time to strategically position themselves on the map and exercise vision control. It was in this context that G2 Esports managed to draw first blood thanks to a skillful botlane dive. The samurai solidified their dominant position by capturing the first dragon and winning an important midlane skirmish. On the Fnatic side, despite bold efforts, a lack of success prevented them from effectively countering, and G2 began to widen the gap in terms of gold. As the match reached the quarter hour, G2 showed perhaps too much aggression, losing two consecutive battles that allowed Fnatic to make up for some of their delay. However, despite this setback, G2 Esports has maintained its lead in gold as it continues to advance in the game.

Beyond 20 minutes of play, the intensity of the game between G2 Esports and Fnatic did not weaken, with both teams engaging in fierce battles. G2 has a slight advantage, especially in terms of neutral objectives, but the competition remains tight. Tensions rise further as the battle for control of Nashor and Sol intensifies. A decisive encounter occurs around the half-hour mark, a somewhat chaotic teamfight, but one where G2 manages to win with four kills as well as two important objectives. Caps and his team use buffs to pressure the map and reach the Fanatic base, which however offers fierce resistance.

Teams then enter a more measured phase focusing on cultivation and establishing a vision. However, this peace is short-lived: a massive team fight breaks out, marked by a series of killings in all directions. Once again, G2 is doing well by capturing the Elder Dragon, but not without ruffling a few feathers in the process. The game culminates in a final face-off near Nashor on Fnatic initiative. G2 Esports achieved a real feat by dominating a spectacular team fight, which ended with a memorable Pentakill from Hans Sama, thus crowning its performance in this intense and exciting game.

In this captivating game, it was G2 Esports that was ultimately victorious, but this match will be remembered for the excellent duel offered by both teams. Despite a few mistakes on both sides, the quality of play and intensity of the encounter was remarkable, once again showing the competitiveness between these two teams.
