Psychological period movie Mother’s Instinct starring Anne Hathaway and Jessica Chastain is coming soon – after the release of its “chilling” new trailer, fans have said its origin “explains a lot.”
Anne Hathaway is no stranger to period dramas, whether it’s British author Jane Austen’s character in Julian Jarrold’s Becoming Jane or the struggling Fantine in Tom Hooper’s Les Misérables adaptation.
The same goes for Jessica Chastain in Tate Taylor’s award-winning The Help. But now the pair are teaming up for a trip back in time – and rather uncomfortable – with Benoît Delhomme’s latest film, Mother’s Instinct.

But did you know that psychological thriller is not a new movie? Now with the trailer out, movie buffs are pointing out the similarities between the plot and its setting.
Fans say mothers’ instincts “explain a lot” of the origins of “chilling”.
Mother’s Instinct is actually a remake of Olivier Masset-Depassey’s 2018 French-language Belgian film of the same name, a detail that one commenter said “explains a lot.”
Taking to Reddit, they wrote: “That this is a remake of a Belgian film explains a lot. It’s like movies about whole continents falling off things and friends yelling at each other about things that may or may not have happened and dead babies.”

“Falling off stuff wins latest Palme d’Or!” Another responded, highlighting the 2023 courtroom drama Anatomy of a Fall, which actually involves falling from objects and the moral dilemma of a blind son as the only witness to the event.

Others expressed their excitement for the film, including this guy, who said: “Between this and Eileen, I’m really digging Anne Hathaway’s streak of being a woman in a period piece with a vague, possibly sinister agenda.”

“I worked on this! Some wild scenes in this,” said another, while a third added, “This looks cool. “Jessica Chastain always crushes it.” A fourth said: “Anne Hathaway and Jessica Chastain never disappoint!”
Mother’s Instinct doesn’t currently have a release date, though the trailer promises it’s “coming to theaters soon.” We’ll be sure to keep you posted when the official date is confirmed.
