Egypt has got a new coach
Rui Vitoria was sacked after elimination in the round of 16 of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, with Egypt looking for a new coach for the upcoming tournament. Faro will notably continue to qualify for the 2026 World Cup against Burkina Faso and Guinea-Bissau next June. The federation has decided to rely on the country’s veterans since twins Hossam and Ibrahim Hassan landed on Egypt’s bench, with the former as coach and the latter as assistant.
The Board of Directors of the Egyptian Football Federation decided today, during its meeting held on Tuesday, to appoint Hossam Hassan as the first Egyptian national team technical director, succeeding Portuguese technical director Rui Vitoria. The council also decided to appoint Ibrahim Hasan as the coach of the national team, we read in a press release. With 176 and 132 caps respectively, the brothers won two African Cup of Nations as players in 1986 and 1998. Hossam Hassan also won the 2006 edition. The latter would take over the selection, having already managed 8 different Egyptians. Clubs since 2008 as well as Jordanian selection (2013/2014).
