Disgruntled farmers. In Marmande, the manager of Super U saves his store by showing his credentials

Leclerc twice and after the Carrefour market, on Saturday 27 January, the Super U of Marmande served as the target of choice to become the object of the wrath of the farmers of Grand Marmande. The measures announced a day ago by Gabriel Atal to calm the business especially as the mobilized JA and FDSE are at their throats. It was a close call, but the manager managed to convince the trade unionists who visited his store that it was not the epitome of mass distribution that was crushing farmers.

Around 5pm, however, the manager was not going easy, scanning the roundabout serving his vast area with fear and annoyance to try to spot the procession of tractors and trailers loaded with tyres, fertilizer and slurry. When the fleet arrived, dialogue began as best as possible with the farmers, including the Secretary General of FDSEA 47, Alain Brifille, who ensured that the best possible course of action took place. And the manager managed to turn over the trade unionist during an impromptu visit to the store.

“We play a game”

It is the fruit and vegetable stand that will support the exhibition: “We work with 180 local producers, we don’t negotiate, we take the prices they offer us so they can live well and we can too. We work together with them. » And Super U’s boss Aymet proceeds to talk about his relationship with the slaughterhouse, or cite a certain honey producer whose jars he sells. In the audience, a farmer finally assured Ellen Briffill and the delegation: “It’s true he’s playing the game.”

JA and FDSEA return, to the manager’s great relief: “They showed us that they work directly with the farmers, without going through a buying center that strangles them,” believes Alain Brifille. An Aldi store a few meters away will not be so lucky and will be attacked by a slurry tanker (for another time) as will Carrefour.
