direct. TFC-Lens: Toulouse, without inspiration, suffer another defeat at the stadium! Follow live after the match
A half-baked start to 2024. Toulouse football players had an uncomfortable last quarter of 2023, at least in terms of their performances in Ligue 1. If they had managed to qualify for the Round of 16 of the Europa League – especially by beating Liverpool at the Stadium – success would have been achieved. In the Championship they were excluded: 10 matches without success. A poor streak was broken on Sunday 14 January (day 18) with a victory in Metz.
So, as Lens hosts this Sunday, January 28 (5:05 pm, the 19th), accounting pressure remains high.
90+6′. Defeat of Toulouse
Another poor performance for the Violets at home to Lens this Sunday. Despite good intentions at the start of the match, TFC was not able to worry Lensois. Toulouse could have been happy to reduce the score on penalties, but, even there, they would not have succeeded. Carles Martínez Nouvel’s men, the coach in the hot seat, will have to show a better face in Reims next weekend.
90′ Six minutes of added time
The assistant referee indicates that there is little time left for Toulouse to at least close the gap.
84′. Sierra misses the penalty!
Vincent Siero takes charge of the punishment but does not carry it out. His shot hits Samba’s crossbar and bounces the wrong side of the goal line.
81′. A samba parade, perhaps in vain
On a dangerous cross from Toulouse, the ball is taken close to lobbing the Lensois goalkeeper with a header. He drives the ball out to Carn after a nice extension. In action, Vincent Ciero is surrounded by lens players. A situation that merits a penalty for Matthew Varneys
70′. Desler returned
The Danish defender replaces Kamanzi. This is Martinez Novela’s second substitution session after the combined entry of Skyetta and Gboho and the exit of Babika and Caceres.
59′. Rapid reaction of Toulouse residents
The locals led a good attack, which ended with Donam attempting a cross shot which was deflected by Samba at the feet of Dalinga. The center forward just has to finish but Medina intervenes and slows the ball away from the target.
55′. The lens takes a break
Following an Artesian corner, the ball is cleared by the TFC defense but the ball goes back to Andy Diouf who scores with a superb half-volley into Restis’ right corner. Violets must score two goals now!
46′. Reprise!
Toulouse start the second half with a one-goal deficit.
45+2′. Halftime at the stadium
Despite showing a good face in the first period, the inhabitants of Toulouse gradually gave ground to Lensois. More efficient, the visitors scored on one of their first real chances. TFC could have conceded a second goal before the whistle on Alli Wahi’s poorly negotiated counter-attack. Martínez Nouvel’s men will have to be more “clinical” in front of goal after the break, as Warren Kamanzi underlined on the Canal’s microphone.
41′. Goal from Lens!
Sung et or convert their highlight. After a threatening corner was pushed back on the line by a Toulouse defender, the Artisians recovered and continued to press. On a nice shift from El Aynaoui, Pereira da Costa slides the ball to Ramense’s left.
35′. Babika puts on a show
The Toulouse winger is back in the first half. He attempts a lobbed shot which is caught by Samba at the cost of a long trigger in the air.
26′. Great fear in the lens area
Babicka makes a breakthrough on his left and outruns the opposition defence. Close to the goal line, the Gabonese center back but no Toulouse player was in the way.
7′. Toulouse residents continue
At the end of a great mass action, Schmidt tries his luck from afar. The ball on target was difficult to catch by opposition goalkeeper Bryce Samba. In the following action Medina lost leather in a dangerous area thanks to good Toulouse pressing. Although they can’t conclude yet, the locals are off to a strong start!
5′. First corner for Toulouse
In a balanced start to the match, the Violets scored their first strike attempt through their captain Vincent Siero. The shot deflects and causes a corner kick that achieves nothing.
