Club: PSG/Nice shift, boon for Paris ahead of Champions League
The PSG/Nice French Cup quarter-final will finally take place in mid-March, not at the end of February as expected. Good news for PSG with Champions League in mind.
With a 3-1 win over Brest on Wednesday evening, PSG confirmed its ticket to the quarter-finals of the Coupe de France and will face OGC Nice, who are currently second in Ligue 1. A match that was supposed to take place on Wednesday 28 February, but Which will finally be played on Wednesday 13 March, as the Nice club first announced on its website, specifies that the kick-off will be given at 9:10pm at the Parc des Princes, which is planned to be broadcast on France TV. OGC Nice also explains that the change is due to international (European Cup, Women’s Nations League) and national (L1) calendars.
France television at the core of the PSG/Nice shift
According to RMC Sport, France Television was behind the PSG/Nice match date change. France TV also broadcasts the Women’s Nations League and the Blues could play the final on February 28. France TV, the holder of the number one selection in the Coupe de France, therefore requested and received a change in the programming of the Coupe de France quarter-finals so as not to have to choose between Les Bleus and PSG/Nice.
A complete change of calendar for PSG, and not so bad for Nice
The change is timed for PSG, who play the Champions League round of 16 second leg against Real Sociedad at Anoeta on Tuesday 5 March. PSG then host Reims on Sunday March 10 and then Nice three days later in the Coupe de France. A quarter-final that PSG should have played a week before its return match against the Basques. In summary, this gap gives Paris a one-week gap before the Monaco/Real Sociedad sequence instead of playing Rennes, Nice, Monaco and Real Sociedad in just twelve days!
From now on, Paris will play Monaco, Real Sociedad, Reims, Nice then Montpellier and Nice so will be playing a Paris team more tired of the sequence of matches than what the calendar offers, which is always a good thing. For the Paris side, the postponement of this match against Nice will allow PSG to play their Matchday 24 Ligue 1 match in Monaco from Friday March 1, giving them four days to prepare for their return match against Real Sociedad. . The Monaco/PSG date will however be confirmed in the coming days.
