Emily Blunt shares how she got the role of Kitty Oppenheimer
Emily Blunt was thrilled to play Kitty, and was a little worried that she wouldn’t be able to keep up with the script (typical of a traditional Nolan film). But she will always remember how Nolan offered her the role.
She told Stephen Colbert,
“You get a call back from Chris Nolan. Although he doesn’t have a phone (his wife called him)… you get a call and you go to see him. I went to meet him at his house… you have this whole conversation with him. (The Late Show with Stephen Colbert)
That’s when things got real.

Red paper did the trick
Details about Nolan modus operandi, she said,
“We just talked about you know, God knows, and then he goes, ‘Okay so I’m going to make this movie, Oppenheimer. have you heard If you want to see Kitty Oppenheimer play the role, I’d love for you to do it.”
That’s when the real trick began. She continued,
“Then you’ll be handed a script on red paper, because apparently you can’t photocopy red paper.”
Colbert chimed in, “So he doesn’t trust you?” Blunt answered in the negative. But red paper was used more. She joked,
“It’s hypnotic. That’s why everyone says yes (to the role).
Much to her relief, the ‘hypnosis’ did not result in her loss, as such Oppenheimer It became one of the best releases of the year, grossing north of $950 million. And the actors who were ‘hypnotized’ also performed well.
This is a Chris Nolan hallmark. It takes great pains to have great actors across the board. Getting RDJ is one such achievement. Finally, having quality actors in supporting roles adds to the quality of his work, which he has been doing for years.
