The first measure targets the EUCAP Sahel – a European mission of 120 people – created in 2012 to strengthen internal security, budget 72 million for the period 2022-2024. The ruling military called for an end to the process last December. The return of 15 soldiers from this mission to Niamey on 24 January angered the junta.

On 26 January, the Nigerian Minister of Interior, General Tumba, ordered his ouster. He left Niger on Sunday evening. The head of EUCAP, German Katja Dominik, returned on his arrival at Niamey airport during the night from Saturday to Sunday.

The second step concerns French citizens, at least five according to our information, who have been expelled from the region since last Thursday.
