Archdiocese of Managua conducts priestly ordination amid detention of priests and seminarians

In Managua’s cathedral, at least 12 priests were arrested in less than three days in a repressive context against the Catholic Church.

Between the night of Friday, December 29 and the early morning of this Saturday, the 30th, the dictatorships of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo launched a hunt for priests as part of their attack against the Catholic Church.

Among the detainees are Monsignors Miguel Mantica and Silvio Fonseca, as well as priests Michael Monterrey, Gerardo Rodriguez and Raul Zamora, all from the Archdiocese of Managua.

During the ordination mass, Cardinal Leopoldo Brenes suggested that the new priests are an answer to prayer.

“The fruit of the prayers of their families, parishes and every archdiocesan church that dedicates a moment every Thursday to our good Lord to send us good and holy priests,” said Cardinal Brains.
