Aeromexico break affects 19 thousand passengers.- Profeco

Mexico City.- Flights have been canceled by the Aeromexico company due to the inspection of the Boeing 737 Max-9 aircraft, the Federal Consumer Prosecutor’s Office (Profeco) reported that 19 thousand passengers are affected at the moment.

The agency detailed that it has issued 22 advisories to customers to date, most of them Mexico City International Airport (AICM); Through the customer’s telephone number, it has received two settlement requests, and it indicates that no formal complaints have been identified at this time.

“In response to Profeco’s request, Aeromexico reported the cancellation of 131 flights with 19,135 affected passengers between January 6 and 9, whose airline reports have been properly rescheduled and/or complied with the current flexibility policy.” The organization said.

United States aeronautical authorities and manufacturer Boeing are in the process of inspecting the B737 MAX-9 aircraft, to avoid a new incident with that type of plane, which occurred on an Alaska Airlines flight on January 5.

Aeroméxico published a notice with applicable security measures for passengers with tickets issued with license plate 139, including the shared code AM, whose flights are affected by protection of routes operated with MAX-9 equipment.

Profeco recalled that measures effective January 6, 2024, state:

Affected itineraries: All whose itineraries that have been canceled include at least one segment operated by Aeromexico will have the following options.

Electronic Voucher (EMD): Valid at 100 percent of original value for travel on any Aeromexico route, valid for one year from date of issue.

Protection on Aeromexico flights: There will be no charge for date changes or fare differences as long as the same route and paid cabin are respected.

Travel Period: January 6 to 10, 2024; Ticket reissue deadline: Up to 28 days after your original flight; Last date to create a new flight: Up to 28 days after your original flight.
