Health Ministry issues recommendations to protect health in heat – Health and Wellness

The Ministry of Health recalled the key prevention measures to enjoy the summer without falling victim to the health problems characteristic of the season.

With the arrival of warmer months, there is an increase in various health conditions with seasonal prevalence, such as heat stroke and problems related to sun exposure. In response to this situation, the Ministry of Health of Enter Rios reminded us of care and preventive measures.

In that sense, it was recommended to keep in mind that high temperature and humid days can be a great health risk especially for young girls and boys and older adults. This is why it is recommended to stay in a cool, well-ventilated area, wear cotton clothing and maintain proper hydration to avoid heat stroke.

In the case of older adults, the ministry suggests that they drink water even if they are not thirsty; While in the case of children, the recommendation is that responsible adults offer fluids continuously, without waiting for the child to ask for it, and, in the case of infants, offer the breast more frequently.

You should also look out for symptoms of heat exhaustion, which is a step before heat stroke. These symptoms are: tiredness or weakness; excessive sweating; Feeling of suffocation and thirst; fever; muscle spasms; loss of appetite, nausea or vomiting; headache; Irritability or uncomfortable crying in young children; Dizziness or fainting.

In the presence of these symptoms, the person should be moved to a cool and ventilated place; You are offered cold water, with half a teaspoon of salt per liter, and it is also recommended that you take a bath. You should not take fever reducers and should consult a health practitioner when experiencing these symptomatic conditions.

You should avoid the hours of 10 am to 4 pm as well as intense sports and sports activities that cause excessive sweating. It is also advisable to use hats or caps with visors, wet the head and body parts frequently and always use sunscreen, preferably 30 or more, in open areas and even on cloudy days. It is important to renew its application every two hours, or after getting in the water or sweating.

It should also be kept in mind that children under one year of age should not be exposed to direct sun and from six months, sunscreen can be used for situations in which they are occasionally exposed. If sunburn occurs, it is recommended to use cold compresses, administer fluids, and seek medical advice.
