Map. Will your casino store become Intermarché, Auchan or Carrefour?
A result of the very weak financial position of the Casino group: the Casino supermarket and the Géant #hyperFrais hypermarket are bought by Intermarche, Auchan and Carrefour. Find out which brand each store across France will be adopting.
A big change awaits the customers of the Casino supermarket and Géant #hyperFrais hypermarket in the coming months. These casino group brands will change their brands. The former flagship of mass distribution in France – it was founded in Saint-Etienne in 1898 – the casino group is in excess of 7.4 billion euros in debt. The only solution to dealing with debt: part with your stores.
Losses impacting rival businesses: Intermarche will take over 164 new stores, Auchan 98 supermarkets and hypermarkets and Carrefour 31 points of sale. Casino stores will change brands in the coming months.
Find out on our map of France which brand will bring the casino store closest to you: zoom in on the region that interests you.
Intermarché big winner
With 1,860 points of sale in France before the takeover of the Casino stores, Intermarche already had a store every 17 km in the national territory. In July 2023, Intermarche had already taken over 61 casino supermarkets that had already changed brands. It has added 164 additional stores to its portfolio.
Auchan extends into France
Auchan wins, for its part, the main Géant #hyperFrais hypermarket and some casino supermarkets. The northern-born large distribution group first expanded beyond its borders in the late 1990s by purchasing Mammoth Hypermarket. Auchan would this time be able to establish himself in the south-east of France. Where it was almost absent and already a strong presence in its strong Bordeaux region. Still in the south-west, Auchan will have a second hypermarket in Toulouse (Fenoillet after Balma-Gremont) and Pau (Lons, after the store on avenue du General Leclerc). Auchan would soon arrive at Carcassonne, Narbonne or Nîmes.
