Faced with controversy, the reaction of the studio, it will be annoying!

Matthew Gallant, the mastermind behind the remaster of The Last of Us 2, doesn’t understand the criticism of the game. It risks angering more than one person.

The Last of Us 2 remaster is finally available, and in our column, we’ve given it the maximum score. For those who have never played the game, now is the perfect time to start. That said, even before its deployment, it was already not to everyone’s taste. In itself, this is not surprising, but the director does not understand some of the criticisms aimed at his game. So he did not hesitate to defend it. Now it remains to be seen if this will be well received by the players.

The director of The Last of Us 2 Remaster is unavailable

During an interview for Media VGC, Matthew Gallant returned to the negative response to The Last of Us 2 remaster, especially after its announcement. In fact, he doesn’t understand” A buzz around what the game has to offer ” For him, there is no doubt, the best way to enjoy what comes next. “If you just got a PlayStation and are new to the franchise, we want to give you the best experience with all the features of the original PS5 version of the game.”

The criticism we’ve heard concerns the interest of the remaster on PS5. On paper, this is not unusual in our time. Redesign, total or slight, is something we see quite often of late. However, The Last of Us 2 was released on PS4 in June 2020. Then, in 2021, we welcomed the PlayStation 5 patch. For some, it’s a little too early to offer a remaster, despite the additions it makes. But on the contrary, this is one of the arguments put forward by Gallant. The addition of new content will justify the existence of this new version.

I think there is an audience for whom the idea of a PS5 version is exciting. Speaking for myself, I’m excited that we can get this out to the fans, and if it’s not for everyone, that’s fine..

Matthew Gallant, regarding feedback on The Last of Us 2 remaster

Rather remarkable additions

As for these famous new features for the remaster of The Last of Us 2, there are mainly two of them (if we leave aside the graphic improvements). First we have the big piece, the roguelite term “no return”. The latter allows you to unlock a nice package of cosmetics for the base game. There is no multiplayer here, just a single player mode where you have to survive as long as possible in each game. In truth, it’s more complicated than that, with a multi-branch campaign, itself made up of random missions and bosses to defeat. Exciting, right?

Another element of The Last of Us 2 Remastered that piques the curiosity of players is the Lost Level. In total, three passages of the game were “abandoned” by the studio. So you can play these sequences that are not finished, while being able to benefit from audio notes that allow you to learn more about the development. For our part, we decided it was a little too short, and finding them in the final version in the director’s cut would have been a no-no. It is up to you to give your opinion on the matter.
