Highlights

After a great performance on the first pass, Kalle Rowanpera did not intend to ride at the same pace on this second pass. This time, the Finn was instructed to let Elphin Evans take the temporary lead in Sunday’s standings. And the trick worked perfectly, with the Welshman taking the lead for just three seconds.

In the power stage, both men have to be “smart” so they don’t reverse their positions again.

Behind Toyota, Hyundais trail and Ott Tanak also loses ground to Thierry Neuville. On his way to play for the top 3 today, Takamoto Katsuta rolls this time.

For the final classification of the rally, Adrien Fourmaux and Assapecca Lappi chose the same strategy as the first passage without taking any risks.

As it stands, while awaiting PS, Elfin Evans is scoring more points than Esapekka Lappi, the likely winner.

In Rally2, Oliver Solberg continues his great dominance while Sami Pajari once again fends off Georges Liname’s attacks.

Pilot reactions

T. Katsuta
11:52.3
“Especially at the end of the special, there was a big contraction. I don’t know, I just lost the front and we spun, it’s not good.”
O. Tanak
111:31.6
“Now it’s another pass, so good luck! I tried hard, but no trace. Taka hits every wall of ice, it’s very aggressive. We could easily lose 20s.
K. Rowanpera
11:30.3
“It was ok, more dirt than expected. I should have been about ten seconds slower and I didn’t, so I’m a little disappointed. Maybe I wore my tires too much, we only had one spare wheel. I tried to save them. Let’s hope they’re still okay for the last one. I want to save the tires for the power stage and try to get as many points as possible for the manufacturers.”
G. Munster
11:48.2
“In the first pass, I hesitated a lot. I thought, this is really the last real special where I can really enjoy myself before next year. I tried to be more direct with my brakes and gears, but I pulled straight into an intersection and stalled. That’s okay, that’s why we’re here, to try things and try to do better.”
L. Bertelli “Lots of ruts in the beginning. Afterwards, it was much better. I’m having a lot of fun.”
T. Newville
11:24.1
“I’m not happy, but it’s good to get the position, and it should be very good on Tanak.”
E. Evans
“We will see how it goes further. It wasn’t a great special here but that’s okay. Kale focuses more on the power stage. He is happy to help us, so I have to think it over for him.”
A. Fourmaux
11:29.1
“I try to forget our position in the general. I just want to have fun. You can feel more confident and it’s easier that way. It is very hard on the tires. One more special to do. The main goal is to be on the podium.
E. Lappi
11:39.2
“I think the conditions were much better on the second pass. This is definitely the best special stage of the rally. I had a better pace than this morning and was a bit faster. It’s not the way I want to drive, but it was a little more enjoyable. So far it’s under our control, so I’m not really too stressed.
O. Solberg
12:11.3
“I just hit the ice wall a little bit, that’s it. I tried to be clean and only did this special. I’m not stressed, I’m enjoying.”
S. the priest
12:05.9
“It’s a very close fight. I also try to have fun.”
G. Linname “We gave everything we could, but it’s not enough. I’m not sure we can do that. Obviously I want to be second, but it will be my first podium.
R. Korhonen “We struggled a bit in the roots. But it was a great stage.
Mr. Hekkila “I don’t really know about the weather, but it was a lot of fun. We are having so much fun. I attacked very hard.
