Its launch date is the subject of rumours

Switch 2 may miss Christmas 2024. Some sources suggest that Nintendo may extend its timeline to early 2025. If even Eurogamers with a keen ear on these topics hear the same thing, it’s because there’s probably some truth to it. K

The Switch has been a hit since its release in 2017. But with the techno heart dating from 2015, about 10 years ago, we’re all starting to cringe at modern hardware. In fact, the Switch 2 was expected for 2024. “Was”, yes, bad news…

In early 2025

Renowned Brazilian video game journalist Pedro Henrique Luti Lippe recently shared information indicating that Nintendo may delay the launch of its next console, the Switch 2, as early as 2025.

The delay, however, will offer Nintendo additional margin for the company to finalize its launch catalog in the 2024 fiscal year.

This strategy aims not only to refine games with console releases but also to optimize their financial impact. These statements are echoed by Eurogamer, known for its reliability, which lends credence to the rumour.

Video Games Chronicle (VGC) adds to the conversation by confirming with two development-related sources that the targeted launch window will indeed be the first quarter of 2025. That said, there is a lack of official confirmation on the reasons for this possible delay. Fuel speculation.

Currently, Nintendo’s schedule for 2024 looks fairly light with a few releases announced for the existing Switch, such as a Princess Peach game in March, followed by Luigi’s Mansion 2 and Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door. That, but Metroid Prime 4, without a release date, seems like passing the baton.
