Victims of data leaks at Viamedis and Almerys can now file complaints online. As part of an investigation by the Paris prosecutor’s office into the cyberattacks that exposed the data of 33 million social security holders on Friday, February 9, authorities made available an electronic complaint form to allow victims to contact the investigation without testifying. One has to go to the police station or gendarmerie.
The document is accessible on the Cybermalveillance website and must be completed and signed as an attachment to the email address. complaint-befti@interieur.gouv.fr or by secure transfer to the government website. These complaints will be added to complaints already filed by mutual insurance companies and service providers affected by the data leak at Viamedis and Almerys.
Potentially unprecedented data leak in France
The two operators, specializing in managing advance payments for patients to healthcare professionals, work with more than 150 mutual insurers and more than 200,000 professional members.
They disclosed that their third-party payment management platforms dedicated to professionals were the victims of intrusions on January 29 and February 1 respectively that exposed the personal information of about 33 million policyholders. This information includes marital status, social security number, name of insurer, and contractual obligations taken out. Elements that expose concerned individuals to personal phishing or even identity theft.
As specifically provided by the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), It is up to each complementary health insurance company to individually and directly inform all concerned using ViaMedics and Almeris providers..
