Why Luis Enrique only made one change during the match
Luis Enrique dismissed just one of his starters during PSG’s win at Lens on Sunday (0-2, day 18 of L1). The Spanish coach was very pleased with what he saw.
Randal Kolo Muani, Marco Asensio, Gonçalo Ramos, Nordi Mukiele, Lucas Beraldo… PSG were once again very good people on the bench during the Lens (0-2, 18th day of L1) match on Sunday. But Luis Enrique only requested one of his substitutions when he could have made five. The technician launched Fabian Ruiz on just the hour mark to replace Carlos Soler, who had been booked ten minutes earlier. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have changed anything.
“I didn’t want to change”
“I really liked what I saw and, apart from Carlos Soler, I didn’t want to change,” he said after the meeting. “But with Carlos Soler’s yellow card and if something unexpected had happened, we would have ended up with 10 men. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have sent anyone off, I’m very happy with what I saw.”
The Spanish midfielder played on the right side of the Parisian three-way midfielder. He celebrated his sixth start of the season in Ligue 1 before making way for the return of Fabian Ruiz, who missed the last six games after dislocating his right shoulder.
More generally, the PSG coach felt a change of direction in his team’s very successful performance. “I’m very satisfied with the whole match, I was happy from start to finish,” he said. “Above all, I think my team is able to be competitive in every match and especially in high intensity and high level matches. Today was no exception, so the first half was very good, knowing that Lens is a team that Suppresses very well.”
“It’s very difficult to play at home and I liked the second half too, I think you need a bit of madness and I’ll leave that to you,” he added. “What I want is control, creating scoring chances, scoring. So I think we need to score more but in the end we scored two goals. We had other chances to score, I remind you that PSG Lens haven’t won in 10 years. And this time it’s a victory. So I think the team is strong and we’re preparing for the next matches coming up in the coming months.”
