They cheat Cubans by selling fake plane tickets
A network of scammers continues to defraud Cubans intending to leave the country by selling fake plane tickets.
The desperation to leave the island becomes unsustainable and many fall into the hands of unscrupulous people who profit from the needs of others.
One of the most recent cases is that of a family that sold all its properties in Cuba to buy a ticket to Guyana. The scammers promised seats on Aruba Airlines flights that would travel between Havana and Georgetown. However, the fraud does not stop there.
The victims of the robbery paid $1,400.00 USD to the alleged private manager. She then sold more plane tickets to others making increasingly false promises. For example, the trip will include a transfer to Uruguay. In addition, clandestine passage through Brazil was assured after landing in Guyana.
Modus Operandi
The modus operandi is repeated again and again; More Cubans continue to “take the bait” as desperation to leave the island grows. It turns out that famous “travel agents” openly advertise their special services. One of them is the sale of tickets and the other is the recruitment of managers who will collect money in Cuba.
However, as expected, these agents were never found and both intermediaries and customers were defrauded. One of the couples who fell victim to this type of scam planned their trip to Uruguay with a supposed travel agency.
The scam amounted to $4,200.00 USD. They were forced to sell their house to get this amount. Now they have no accommodation and no desire for a plane ticket.
To avoid falling into this type of scam, it is important to verify the authenticity of the plane tickets. This can be checked at the airport, physical agencies or the airline’s official website.
