TLOU 2 has a brand new mode that is exclusive to this PS5 version: No Return Mode!
This involves playing a character from the license and starting a series of random battles. We find ourselves facing various and varied enemies such as WLF soldiers, Seraphites, Rattlesnakes or the famous infected.
Between each wave, it’s possible to upgrade your weapons and skills and you’ll need them, as this mode is a roguelike, meaning that every death results in an orderly end to the game, and a return to square one.
Progression is particularly well thought out: as we progress, new types of encounters are unlocked. This ensures great recovery and avoids any feeling of futility.
We can participate in 4 types of battles:
- Attacks characterized by 3 consecutive waves of enemies (usually between 4 and 8)
- “Hunting” mode in which our character is hunted and must last for an average duration of 2 minutes.
- “Capture” mode in which we must steal the contents of an extremely well-guarded chest.
- “Defense” mode that involves defending NPCs against enemies who only want one thing: your death!
To achieve your different objectives, you can choose between 10 characters each with specific characteristics.
Some will be true experts in melee, others in long-range shooting, crafting or even stealth. This aspect is very interesting and forces us to adapt our gameplay according to each situation. So it quickly becomes imperative to know each individual’s strengths and make the most of them.
This remaster also gives us another interesting new feature: lost levels.
There are 3 of them, these are actually levels that were cut from the original version.
So this offers players new sequences while being able to benefit from audio commentary from the developers.
To expand its content, the game also offers us a free guitar mod. So everyone can give free rein to their musical desires by swiping DualSense’s touchpad, as they wish.
Technical aspect
Visually, the game is magnificent! The atmosphere is exquisite and full of details. The lighting and camera effects work particularly well and we are literally amazed.
The native 4K will please gamers, the sound environment is not going to be outdone and is still just as successful.
The original game had already accomplished technical feats and set the bar very high, but this remaster still managed to surpass and improve upon it.
As you must have understood, this game is a real graphic slap in the face. DualSense features are fully utilized, including haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, not forgetting 3D audio.
lifetime
TLOU 2’s story can be completed in about 25 hours if you play on medium difficulty. You can count almost double if you are adventurous enough to try the real mode that suits the most challenge.
If you want to unlock all the characters, complete all the challenges and face all the bosses then no return mode ends in about fifteen hours.
This remaster therefore has a solid lifespan.
