Stimulus checks up to $3,600 in the United States starting in January 2024 in these states

Although federal stimulus payments have ended, taxpayers in 2024 still have the opportunity to receive refunds and other assistance popularly known as stimulus checks, although they have different names.

“The focus is now on economic recovery, and additional stimulus checks are not part of current legislative agendas,” according to Zach Hellman, founder of Tax Prep Tech.

In five states, direct payments are being distributed in 2024, but certain criteria must be met to receive the money.

Some payments come from state budget surpluses, while others are specific programs designed to support vulnerable populations.

We have compiled a list of rebates available this month:

Arizona

In Arizona, approximately 743,000 residents could take advantage of a new rebate approved by Gov. Katie Hobbs. The rebate will provide eligible taxpayers with $250 for each dependent over age 17, with a maximum allowable amount of $750.

California

California residents have the opportunity to access a one-time tax credit of up to $3,600.

In addition, those who qualify and are approved for the California Earned Income Tax Credit are given a “Young Child Tax Credit” of up to $1,083, as long as they have a child under 6 years of age.

Filing your tax return by April 18, 2025 automatically guarantees a tax credit boost.

Colorado

In Colorado, eligible single filers will receive $847, while couples filing jointly can receive $1,694, thanks to the TABOR rebate.

Unlike previous years, changes to TABOR rules in 2024 will result in all taxpayers receiving the same amount.

As a result, higher earners will get less than usual, while low-income residents will get a few hundred extra dollars.

In total, due to a $3.6 billion surplus through 2023, Colorado will return the remaining money to taxpayers.

Maryland

In Maryland, residents can get extra money this month through the annual child tax credit.

This credit, up to $500 per child, is for families with children under 6 or with disabilities.

About 40,000 taxpayers are eligible, as long as they have a federal adjusted gross income of $15,000 or less.

New Mexico

New Mexico taxpayers can receive a refund check of up to $1,000 this year.

The payment will be sent to everyone who files their 2021 tax return by May 31, 2024 and does not claim it is based on another tax return.

Single filers will receive $500, while couples filing jointly can expect up to $1,000.
