Egyptian star Mohamed Salah will forego his selection to undergo treatment at Liverpool following the hamstring injury he sustained against Ghana, according to Egyptian media and his club coach Jurgen Klopp.

A huge blow for Egypt at CAN 2024 in sight. The Egyptian federation confirmed in local media Al-Ahram on Sunday 21 January that the Pharaohs star will leave the African Cup, after attending the decisive clash between his selection and Cap on Monday.
The Egyptian Pharaohs striker injured his left hamstring on Thursday and had to leave early against Ghana (2-2). The federation has already announced its withdrawal for the final Group B match against Cape Verde and a possible round of 16 in the event of qualification.
“That’s Logic”
Complementing Jurgen Klopp’s statements on Sunday after Liverpool’s win at Bournemouth (5-0).
“It is logical” that the winger leaves CAN, at least temporarily, to be followed by the Liverpool medical team, the German technician said.
In any case, “that’s the plan,” he insisted. “If it’s already 100% decided, I don’t know. But that’s what’s planned.”
“However the amount of time he’s gone, everyone sees him that way, it makes sense that he does his rehabilitation with us or with our (medical) team. I don’t know if it’s already set in stone” but ” I think he’ll be back.”
Return for finals or semi-finals
In the event that Salah returns to England, the Egyptian could later return to Ivory Coast, the host nation of CAN, if his selection goes too far in the adventure, Klopp said.
“I would say if Egypt qualify for the final, if they are fit, then maybe yes,” he replied.
“Côte d’Ivoire is a fantastic country, I’m sure, but we don’t have anyone from home there and they have to take care of those who play, so we’ll see,” he concluded.
Al-Ahran Media, for its part, attributed the return to a possible semi-final.
