Nicolás Maduro highlighted the importance of the Chavista National Assembly in the popular consultation process on Guyana Essequiba, in which it played a “fundamental role” in strengthening Venezuela’s position and leading to a great agreement.

“The AN played a fundamental role, with the referendum to consult the people about Guyana Essequiba, which allowed us to gain great strength, and we achieved a great agreement,” he expressed.
In response to tensions in the region, Maduro also asserted that Venezuela is a country of peace and tranquility. “Venezuela is not 1902, it is a peaceful, quiet country to continue working for economic development,” he said.
However, Maduro cautioned Guyana’s government against misunderstandings about Venezuela’s position in the territorial dispute. “Let no one be fooled, starting with the government of Guyana, they are behaving like old British Guiana, make no mistake about Venezuela, I tell you lightly.”
The Chavista leader concluded his intervention by reaffirming Venezuela’s ability to defend its interests. “Make no mistake about us, we know how to defend what’s ours,” he declared.
