Ivory Coast, what does the list say?
For Ivory Coast, this year marks its 25th participation in CAN. The selection has already won a total of two African Championship titles in the past. The first in 1992 in Senegal and the second in 2015 in Equatorial Guinea. In 2021, Ivory Coast attended and were eliminated in the round of 16 along with Nigeria.
Nigeria, what does the list say?
This year, Nigeria is participating in its 20th CAN. In the past, the selection has already been crowned three times: 1980 at home, 1994 in Tunisia and 2013 in South Africa. In 2021, during the last edition, the Nigerians were eliminated in the round of 16.
A match for Lookman?
From the beginning of this CAN, Nigeria’s top scorer is Atlanta striker Ademola Lookman (26), who is the author of three goals as well as an assist. Host nation Ivory Coast started with one victory followed by two defeats. To succeed in qualifying, as the fourth and last best third out of all groups. Accepted place in Group A, behind Equatorial Guinea and Nigeria. In the round of 16, the Ivorians defeated the defending champions, Senegal, after a penalty shootout (1–1, 5–4 tab). The selection had to go to overtime to beat Mali (1-2) in the quarterfinals. Finally, in the last four, Ivory Coast defeated DR Congo (1-0).

Nigeria, after two wins after a draw, are second in Group A behind Equatorial Guinea. Before exiting, in the round of 16, Cameroon (2-0), then Angola (1-0), in the quarter-finals. Earlier, in the semi-finals, eliminating South Africa, after a penalty shootout (1-1, 4-2 tab).
Ivory Coast, the miracle
Ivory Coast have not lost a match since January 22. It was for his third and final group match, against Equatorial Guinea (4–0). Since then, there have been two draws and then a defeat in selection.
Nigeria is undefeated
Nigeria’s last defeat came on January 8. It was a friendly against Guinea (2-0). The selection then continued with CAN for a record of four wins and two draws.

The last encounter between the two selections took place on 18 January. On the second day of the group stage, in Group A, Nigeria defeated Ivory Coast (0-1).Thanks to a penalty scored by his PAOK defender William Trost-Ekong (55th).
