EDF has signed an agreement with Amazon to manage the maintenance planning of the nuclear power plant, confirms information from franceinfo, Le Canard chainé, obtained from EDF on Tuesday, February 13.
For this, the French energy company selected the American group’s IT services subsidiary Amazon Web Services a few months ago. The aim for EDF is to modernize its general information systems, part of the management, in view of the growth of the French nuclear fleet. But Amazon isn’t the only one chosen to complement the company’s internal skills.
Agreement bound within the framework of European regulations
EDF clarifies that this information has been made public from the outset by those who have an interest in the matter. The selected companies, and those that were not, are informed and free to communicate or not.
The group insists that the agreement is strictly within the framework of European regulations. It added that it would not comment on the content or financial parameters of the agreement, the information being covered by commercial and industrial confidentiality.
For its part, the Ministry of Economy ensures that the regulations in force today on sovereign IT management concern only the administration, not manufacturers. Bruno Le Maire explains that the government aims to promote French offers capable of competing with large American groups.
The major industrial players concerned note and regret that today, no French offer is able to compete with the Americans to support a company like EDF. Bersi also confirms it “Action in this direction is being carried out as part of the France 2030 cloud strategy”.
