Did you receive your remittance? Update on sending money to Cuba

Last Friday, financial company Cimex SA (Fincimex) announced that remittances to Cuba were gradually being paid, after several days of delays due to unexplained technical problems.

Some customers in Cuba confirmed receipt of their money transfers through comments on the official Fincimax Facebook page. In this article, we update how currency transfers are going on the island.

For example, a Cuban woman reported that she received her first transfer from Spain on January 26 through an agency called Linea Mundo. Another client claimed that her mother received a remittance sent by Small World from Germany on February 1.

However, there are cases of customers who have not yet received their remittances, and who used the same shipping agencies. Small World, for example, has temporarily suspended shipments to Cuba, joining agencies based in the Western Union and the United States.

A user expressed his displeasure with the company saying that if their aim is to serve people, they are not fulfilling it. “They may present technical glitches or whatever, but at least the director of this company should issue a credible statement for us. Misinformation only brings chaos,” he wrote.

Problems sending remittances to Cuba

So far, there has been no public statement from Fincimex. The remittance processing agency in Cuba has limited itself to responding to a few clients who have already started paying and the situation is slowly stabilizing.

And what exactly happens with sending money to Cuba? Fincimex customer service referred to “integration tests with banking” and “linking shipments with bank accounts”.

It is important to remember that the Cuban government had to postpone the increase in fuel prices due to a cyber attack “from abroad” on the CIMEX corporation, claiming that it did not have the conditions to start collecting them.

However, it was not explained whether the incident also affected deposits of remittances sent to Cuba in late January and early February.

Have you already received your remittance? On what date and from which agency did they send you? Let us know in the comments.
