Covid-19 variant JN.1: How to identify and differentiate it from the common flu
The National Institutes of Health (INS) confirmed that a new JN variant is circulating in Colombia. 1 of Kovid-19, which has spread rapidly to many areas of the world. In fact, in the United States, it has established itself as the dominant strain and is responsible for the peak of infections in the nation.

The INS explained that there has been an increase in cases of respiratory infections in the national territory, a situation the entity described as normal because it is a phenomenon that usually occurs during the last quarter of the year, especially increasing in December and January.
This situation occurs because social interactions increase due to the Christmas and New Year holidays, which encourage the arrival of tourists from the United States and Europe.
What is known about the JN.1 variant and what are its features?
According to the Genomic Surveillance Report of the INS, issued on January 9, variants of Ómicron are still circulating in Colombia, moreover, it was confirmed that J.N. 1, classified as of concern by the WHO, has been circulating in Colombia since the week of December 24.
Experts clarified that JN. 1 originates from the Ómicron BA.2.86 variant, which makes it highly infectious, but at the same time has a low ability to kill or transfer patients with the virus to ICU beds.
