In Managua’s cathedral, at least 12 priests were arrested in less than three days in a repressive context against the Catholic Church.
Between the night of Friday, December 29 and the early morning of this Saturday, the 30th, the dictatorships of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo launched a hunt for priests as part of their attack against the Catholic Church.
Among the detainees are Monsignors Miguel Mantica and Silvio Fonseca, as well as priests Michael Monterrey, Gerardo Rodriguez and Raul Zamora, all from the Archdiocese of Managua.

During the ordination mass, Cardinal Leopoldo Brenes suggested that the new priests are an answer to prayer.
“The fruit of the prayers of their families, parishes and every archdiocesan church that dedicates a moment every Thursday to our good Lord to send us good and holy priests,” said Cardinal Brains.

In recent days, 12 priests have been arrested in Nicaragua and Bishop Isidro Mora, who along with Bishop Rolando Alvarez – sentenced to 26 years in prison – are high-ranking members of the church, detained in the Central American country, where President Daniel Ortega has ruled since 2007 and is in direct conflict with the Catholic Church.
