Anger management therapist attacks and kills Florida man
An anger management therapist in Florida has been charged with murder for shooting a man and then stuffing his body in the trunk of his car as part of an ongoing dispute.
Travis McBride, 46, owner of Starting Point Mental Health in DeLand, was arrested Thursday morning after police responded to a call about a “suspicious” incident at a home on South Frankfort Avenue.
“There has been a murder,” an informant told the police.
“We had some eyewitnesses, and I think the guy is looking down the road right now, cleaning the blood off the ground.”
The reporting party told the 911 operator, “I just saw him drag the body down the road. He put it in his car, and then he drove off.
“And then he came back, and less than 10 minutes ago he started clearing the road, and now I see him around the yard with a flashlight,” he added.
DeLand Police Capt. Prurins Dice told WKMG that police “found some shell casings from the gun and found blood on the street.”
Officers found the bullet-riddled body of Clinton Dorsey, 52, in the trunk of McBride’s red Nissan Versa near Frankfort and New York avenues, according to police.
While searching the area, officers spotted McBride walking nearby and arrested him.
“We believe there was a dispute going on between McBride and our victim. I don’t know if they knew each other, but they knew about each other. Unfortunately, it ended in the death of a man,” Police Chief Jason Umberger told the outlet.
Fox 35 Orlando, citing the arrest report, reported that officers also spoke with a neighbor who said McBride had come to Dorsey’s house the day before he was found because he had “put crystals in a jar for his dog.”
The case of Travis McBride, an anger management therapist accused of murder, is deeply tragic and disturbing. Here are some additional details about the case:
Bloody clothes were found inside a dumpster near McBride’s car.
Several witnesses told police they heard gunshots the night Dorsey was killed.
When he was arrested, McBride suffered injuries to his arms, hands and torso, and told police he suffered the injuries from training the dogs and “shooting,” according to Fox 35.
The suspect was charged with premeditated first-degree murder and is being held without bond in the Volusia County Jail. He has not filed a statement yet.
Despite being an anger management specialist, McBride has an extensive criminal record, including a 1995 arrest for aggravated assault, according to the Daytona Beach News-Journal.
In 2017, McBride was arrested for domestic violence by strangulation, and his then-wife said he strangled her after she took their dog out by the collar. McBride denied strangling her and she said she did not want to press charges.
