AC Milan beat AS Roma in Serie A with three French goals
AC Milan won a midweek duel of major disappointments against AS Roma (3-1) in the Italian Cup, happily relying on its four French starters. The only non-international of the lot, Yassin Adli was the first to shine with his first goal in Milan. Lined up as a sentry, the former Bordeaux player excelled, rebounding and building, and opened the scoring with a low left cross shot (11th). Theo Hernandez, returning to his left-back position, almost doubled the lead with a cross-shot that hit the post (28th) while Mike Magnan stopped two good efforts from AS Roma who were responding despite Jose Mourinho’s suspension and absence. Paulo Dybala (injured).
Giroud’s tenth goal in the Championship
Returning from the locker room, Olivier Giroud scored his 10th goal of the season in Serie A, scoring with a header from Simon Kjaer after a long cross from Yassin Adli. The Romans reduced the gap with a penalty from Leandro Paredes (69th), scored by Lorenzo Pellegrini. Entering the break, the Roman captain was dangerous on free kicks (73rd) and shots from 20 meters (76th). AC Milan gave breathing space thanks to Theo Hernandez. The left-back punctuated the one-two with Giroud with a powerful shot under the bar. Thanks to this success, Milan consolidates its 3rd place after losing Bologna (4th) and Fiorentina (6th). AS Roma are in 9th place, 5 points away from qualifying for the Champions League.
