Six injured after hard landing of American Airlines flight

(CNN) — An American Airlines flight made a hard landing at Hawaii’s Kahului Airport on Saturday, injuring one passenger and five flight crew members.

“American Airlines Flight 271, with service from Los Angeles (LAX) to Maui (OGG), experienced a problem landing at OGG,” American Airlines told CNN in a statement. “The plane taxied to the gate under its own power and customers disembarked normally.”

Six injured people were taken to hospital and later discharged. The plane was carrying 167 passengers and seven crew members.

The plane was “taken out of service to be checked by our maintenance team,” according to American Airlines.

“The safety of our customers and team members is our highest priority,” the company added.

Hawaii’s Department of Transportation also confirmed to CNN that the airline made a “hard landing” at the airport on Saturday afternoon.

The Federal Aviation Administration announced it would investigate the incident, according to a statement on its website.

“American Airlines Flight 271, an Airbus A320, made a hard landing on runway 20 at approximately 2 a.m. local time at Kahului Airport in Hawaii. Contact the airline for passenger information. “The FAA will investigate,” the statement read.
