He’s been helping League of Legends for 10 years, but his job will soon become impossible… thanks to Riot Games.
After the rest of this announcement
Any League of Legends player knows of third-party sites that help you build your champion, build your teamfight tactics lineup, or understand the changes coming to the MOBA. There are also content creators who help the community by regularly posting about new features in the game. One of them, a very well-known one, may soon be in trouble… thanks to an update from Riot Games.
An update that will change everything
If you love cosmetics in League of Legends, and you easily whip out a credit card to buy yourself a new look, you’ll probably know SkinSpotlights, a YouTube channel specializing in skins, is always the first to highlight them as soon as they hit the PBE.. For 11 years now, it has allowed players to explore different skins from all angles, and has over 2.7 million subscribers. A channel rooted in the community, which unfortunately may be in trouble because of Riot Games.
The reason behind this decision is quite simple: the arrival of Vanguard in League of Legends. New anti-cheat software. The problem is, to make his videos, Skinspotlights used a modified version of the game (while his channel is a full-time job, he originally trained as a software engineer). So he created tools to make his video creation easier, tools that allowed him to make changes to the camera or get the job done quickly. All these tools can be detected as cheating tools by the new Vanguard Anti-Cheat System,
A real loss to the community?
The truth is, there is no better place to find skins than SkinSpotlights. To be honest, The channel does a job that should be done by Riot Games. When new cosmetics are released, we officially only have a short preview available in-game, a preview that doesn’t exceed 30 seconds, while Chanel devotes several minutes to each cosmetic. So this content is perfect for deciding whether we want to buy a cosmetic or not, because thanks to these videos we can find all the details (animation of each spell, reminders, quotes, etc.).
What will happen in the future is yet to be determined, however It seems clear that the loss of a content creator like SkinSpotlights is not good news for the League of Legends community.
