Club: Sarkozy seeks lease at Roland-Garros proposed for Parc des Princes

While the tension between PSG and Paris City Hall surrounding the future of the Parc des Princes is once again high, the latter did not hesitate to call on Nicolas Sarkozy, known to Paris decision makers, to bring the two sides closer. The idea of a lease at Roland-Garros has also been put forward by the town hall.

Sarkozy called on PSG and City Hall to reconcile

The issue of the future of the Parc des Princes is one of the hottest issues at PSG, perhaps the hottest off the pitch alongside Kylian Mbappe’s future, and has experienced numerous eventful episodes over the course of the week. On the one hand, between the sometimes discordant declarations of various representatives of Paris City Hall, the desire to resume dialogue and the confirmation of a formal refusal to sell the stadium to its resident club. On the other hand, the very clear words of Nasser al-Khelafi have been revealed in this issue with a three-month ultimatum that has been looming for several years now.

While PSG announced part of its game with assurances that it has solutions away from the Parc des Princes that it has occupied for 50 years, Paris City Hall has changed its tone in recent days and advocated reopening a completely broken dialogue with it. Club, especially its president Nasser Al-Khelafi. To try to mend things, Mayor Anne Hidalgo also requested, according to L’Equipe, a matchmaker with a well-known name: former President of the Republic Nicolas Sarkozy, a lifelong supporter of PSG and involved in the takeover of the club. Qatar in 2011.

For the moment, this attempt by the former mayor of Neuilly-sur-Seine to bring the two sides together does not amount to much, as evidenced by the highly offensive interview with Nasser El-Khelafi earlier in the week. So much so that even the town hall wonders if the message was actually delivered by Sarkozy to Al-Khelafi. The ultimatum asked by the Parisian president was not really understood in the town hall, nor was it well received.

Rent at Roland-Garros proposed to PSG

In recent days, the tone has in any case changed on the side of the town hall and First Deputy Emmanuel Grégoire, who was present with Sports Deputy Pierre Rabada in front of the press, explained that he “A proposal so that the club, even if it does not buy the Parc des Princes, can capitalize on its investments. We must establish a working structure without preconditions, without ultimatums. (…) We have a great project to build together. We Suggest working quietly again to demonstrate it and explain things. »

The first deputy explained the idea of the moment, very long-term rentals, possibly in the form of long-term leases that would last up to 99 years: “This is what is done at Roland-Garros. The French Tennis Federation is investing 490 million euros there, but it is leased for such a long period, about 50 years, that they are amortized. The investment that PSG will make In any case, it will expire in thirty years, after which they will have to do it again. So his interests will be guaranteed. »

Not sure if PSG are too keen on this proposal, especially after years of fruitless dialogue.
