As speculation rages about the future of Microsoft and its role as a console manufacturer, a new game is coming soon to Sony’s machine, the PlayStation 5, and it includes a feature revolving around the firm chaired by Satya Nadella. Redmond in reverse?
What future for Microsoft?
The news had the effect of a bomb: last week, several insiders, usually very well informed, reported a change in strategy at Microsoft. While the Redmond firm has been fighting for a year to validate Activision’s purchase of Blizzard, the likes of Tom Warren and Jez Corden Thus announcing that Microsoft will soon offer its exclusive games on competing machines, such as Hi-Fi Rush, Starfield, Sea of Thieves or the upcoming Indiana Jones! And inevitably, it didn’t take long for the entire web to catch fire in the early 2000s to imagine a scenario like SEGA’s. Is Microsoft leaving the console world?
Reality or fiction? We’ll know more in a few days as Phil Spencer, the Xbox man par excellence at Microsoft, has revealed that an event will be held soon to clarify the situation. In reality, the reality will be a bit more complicated as it seems that Microsoft will not leave the world of console manufacturers. On the other hand, the brand’s multiplatform philosophy may well turn to the competition, but perhaps in the simpler form of the cloud. In short, can’t wait for official information from Microsoft!
A Sony PS5 game under Microsoft?
Parallel to this story, for Sony, the month of February is marked by the arrival of the third-person shooter (TPS) Helldivers 2, which promises to be a huge success on PS5 and Steam. The Sony-published game also set a record for the publisher as it surpassed God of War in terms of concurrent users, i.e. 155,926 users! Designed by Arrowhead Game Studio, this title takes place in a Starship Troopers-style universe and also has a funny twist.
It is actually a game whose multiplayer is based on Microsoft’s cloud technology, namely Azure. In fact, launching on the platform causes some minor issues including disconnection issues. So we should hope that they will be resolved soon, but we must admit that the link between Sony/Microsoft makes us smile at a time when we are going to know more about the latter’s strategy.
