Rockstar will deprive thousands of players from GTA and Red Dead games

Rockstar Games fans, beware! The studio’s legendary licenses such as GTA, Red Dead and other games are now unavailable to certain players.

Last year, Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive broke the internet with GTA 6. Certainly, the future episode was (again) the victim of a huge leak, a few hours before the official airing of the first trailer, but it fueled the debate. More than anything else. An event that forced the studio to push its release by delivering the trailer in the best possible quality and without any incentive to buy bitcoins. While waiting for a 2025 launch, the announcement made in 2023 recently came into effect, and that’s bad news for some players.

Mandatory update to enjoy Rockstar Games games

All good things must come to an end, and that’s what Microsoft told itself by killing Windows 7 and 8. Both operating systems are no longer supported, and this is affecting gaming. For example, Valve no longer allows access to Steam as of January 1, 2024. Users have no choice but to upgrade to Windows 10 or 11 if they still want to enjoy it. Other companies followed, like Rockstar Games. If you planned to run their in-house productions through the official launcher, and you’re still running W7 or 8, you’re in for an immediate stop.

“Due to the end of support for Windows 7 and 8 operating systems by Microsoft, Rockstar Games will no longer officially support these operating systems from January 30, 2024. To avoid possible future service interruptions and ensure continued access to the latest platform features, we 7 and 8 users are advised to upgrade to a supported operating system as soon as possible » (via Rockstar Support).

Say goodbye to new content, updates and even access to some games via Rockstar Launcher. To continue playing GTA 5, Bully, Grand Theft Auto IV, Red Dead Redemption 2, Max Payne 3 and the following titles, you must install the latest version of Windows. Once done, you can return to your activities in Los Santos, Sao Paulo or Grand Theft Auto Online, which lays the golden eggs of Hans Rockstar Games. Below is a list of software affected by this decision.
