7 years of development for Kill the Justice League
Video game and superhero fans are in for a treat with the upcoming release of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. Announced in August 2020, the game has experienced so many twists and turns that some believe it will be a resounding failure.
Initially planned as an online game, much like the disaster experienced by Square Enix’s Avengers, Suicide Squad eventually changed direction following this flop. We were also able to see a preview of the gameplay during Sony State of Play in February 2023, showing similarities to Fortnite. Trying to rally fans of online gaming, but is it the right choice?
After this revelation, a playable alpha version was released, and I can say this now that the NDA has been lifted: the game is boring, uninteresting and even sad to play. Rocksteady decides to resurrect Batman from the Arkhamverse, undoing the previous installment’s ambiguous ending.
The studio has been hit with numerous leaks since the release of the alpha, with claims that Poison Ivy and the Joker will also return, undoing their tragic deaths. All this, cumulatively, shows that Rocksteady has lost its identity in the development of this game.
This is a real shame, as Rocksteady’s talent is to create games with rich stories, not churn out online nonsense. The studio is capable of producing quality AAA games, and it’s a real shame to see it go down this path.
