The Stallantis Group (Peugeot, Citroën, Jeep, Fiat, etc.) has just introduced its STLA Large, a new platform dedicated to the sportiest and most luxurious electric car in its range. Jeep and Maserati will especially benefit from this, benefiting from insane acceleration, XXL autonomy and ultra-fast charging.
In the sprawling Stellantis group, there are certainly many common manufacturers (such as Peugeot, Citroen, Fiat or Opel), but there are also many more exclusive and sporty brands. We especially think of Jeep, Dodge or Maserati, which sell powerful cars as luxurious.
The shift towards electrification of the market cannot but question these fundamentals for these brands. So Stellantis has thought of them by developing a platform dedicated to the largest and most efficient car of the group: Welcome to the STLA Large.
And engineers saw the bigger picture. This platform reveals impressive figures, including a battery with a capacity of 85 to 118 kWh, which is enough to achieve an autonomy of up to 800 km. With the 800 volt architecture, charging is not skipped, which is enough to get by “Up to 4.5 kWh per minute” There will also be a dump 400 volt version.
Performance follows, as the sportiest version can go from 0 to 100 km/h in 2 seconds! If power is not specified, the press release indicates that it “Can outrun current V8 Hellcat engines”, a legendary engine in the United States, which can develop up to 807 hp; A good clue to what lies ahead.
Interestingly, this platform was intended to be ultra-flexible. Almost everything is customizable: dimensions (length, width, wheelbase, ground clearance, overhang, etc.), but also the location of the engine (front, rear or both) or chassis technologies to adapt it to a hyper sporty version or, on the contrary, great off-road capabilities. with.
This STLA Large is ultimately a “multi-energy” platform; Understand that it is definitely developed to accommodate a 100% electric engine, but it can also accommodate a thermal or hybrid version.
This is all well and good, but who will benefit from it? Stellentis is clear: the STLA Large is initially planned for the North American market (USA and Canada); However, Europe should benefit from it.
Jeep and Dodge will be the first to benefit from it with the Wagoneer S and Electric Charger respectively. Alfa Romeo and Maserati will soon be entitled to it, as will Chrysler, but still for their largest models. A total of eight launches are planned between 2024 and 2026.
The STLA Large is one of four platforms designed by Stellantis to electrify its range, and therefore complements the STLA Medium that will launch in Spring 2024 with the Peugeot E-3008. STLA Small will come a little later, but it will only be an evolution. eCMP that equips for example Peugeot E-208 or Fiat 600e. Finally, the fourth will be specifically dedicated to utility vehicles and large pick-ups: this will be the STLA frame.
