Movie in theatres: Poor creatures By Yorgos Lanthimos
Five years later favorite, Emma Stone and Yorgos Lanthimos reunite in this retelling of Frankenstein, the feminist version. An existential and twisted fairy tale, where Stone gives an extraordinary performance as Bella, who is “rescued” by a mad scientist (Willem Dafoe) who transplanted a child’s brain. Yes, as crazy (and funny) as it sounds.
What’s new at the cinema this week
Series: True detective Season 4
Perhaps the first to best season of the crime anthology! Producer Nick Pizzolatto was sidelined, and Mexican filmmaker Isa Lopez (Tigers are not afraid) was able to breathe new life into the “True Date” saga, with this harsh frosty investigation into Alaska’s polar night, a wonderful setting where a new female duo delights: Jodie Foster and Kali Reese make the perfect spies who are scrambling. To solve this icy mystery.

Film on VOD: of last summer By Catherine Breillat
In her return after a ten-year absence, Catherine Breillet depicts the forbidden love between a lawyer in his forties and his partner’s young son. As always, the director of Romance One of the most Machiavellian portraits of women seen in a long time, against the tide of time, disturbs and captivates through its unflinching ability to explore the intimate terrain of womanhood without inhibitions. Leah Durker is masterful, as is the novice Samuel Kircher. They should both find themselves on the list of Caesar nominees on Wednesday.

Movie in Streaming: Scam investigation Thierry de Peretti states
With Thierry de Peretti, it’s always about hacking the models: if violent life were a kind offree Radical and principled in Corsica, Investigating state corruption is one Miami Vice Steady and hypnotic, bald and anti-spectacular, a giant Roshdi Zem conducts that defies all drug movie clichés. Movie on TV: Intranquils By Joachim Lafosse
Intranquils, it’s not just Damien Bonnard’s (insane) performance as the bipolar artist, consumed by his own energy, but also Leila Bekhti, who is absolutely overwhelming in her role as the mute and worried colleague. Joachim Lafosse does not take sides with one or the other. He never leaves them, and Intranquils A portrait is made of a couple moving towards tears.

Nugget: La Minima Island By Alberto Rodriguez
Shortly after Franco’s death, a pair of policemen (Javier Gutierrez and Raul Arevalo) who are diametrically opposed to each other are on the hunt for a serial killer who targets young girls in a swamp region of Andalusia. During their investigation, they will come across a complicated local reality, while a police officer’s dark past resurfaces. Often compared True Detective (The resemblance to Season 1 of Nick Pizzolatto’s series is truly uncanny), this great thriller is simply inaccessible to fans of the genre.

UFO: Canine By Yorgos Lanthimos
Do you find Lanthimos’ cinema twisted? Wait until you see the film (his second solo feature) that made him famous (Un Certain Regard Prize) at Cannes in 2009. This closed session immerses us in a strange family isolated in the countryside. The three children, though adults, have never seen outside their villa, where they live under the alienation of their parents. They will only be allowed out if they lose their dog teeth… Punctuated with very uncomfortable scenes, this black and surreal comedy, chosen by David Lynch, will almost make you feel. Poor creatures

Farewell: Cain Mutiny Affair By William Friedkin
William Friedkin’s posthumous (TV) movie arrives this week on Paramount+. There are variations on that Hurricane on Cain, a major classic of Humphrey Bogart’s film. The first officer of a US Navy minesweeper is court-martialed for disobeying his paranoid, authoritarian superior (Kiefer Sutherland, as Bogie) during a massive storm in which he threatens the crew’s safety. Did the rebel do the right thing by disobeying? Well: It would be wrong to say that this judicial closed session has the same angry energy as the late Friedkins, sort of. bug Or Killer Joe (Let’s not even talk about that The French Connection Or Magic spells). But the tight staging manages to make what can only be theater very moving. And the moral of the story is as ambiguous as can be. Compulsory viewing, therefore, for thorough Friedkinians.

Video Game: Prince of Persia – The Lost Crown
After years of silence, the legendary saga Prince of Persia 2.5D returns in a title that fits like a glove. The combat system, both very accessible and scalable (coupled with very good gameplay ideas), offers a gaming pleasure that is not possible. Not a revolution, far from it, but everything is finished with a sense of detail that commands respect.
Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series and Switch.
