West Virginia’s attorney general, Republican Patrick Morrisey, on Tuesday asked US Vice President Kamala Harris to invoke the 25th Amendment to the Constitution to disqualify 81-year-old Joe Biden as president.
Morrissey backed up his letter on special counsel Robert Haar’s report with the conclusion of an investigation into Biden’s retention of classified documents from his time as Barack Obama’s vice president (2009-2017), where he recommended not charging him. , he emphasized who exhibited “significantly limited” memory.
“President Biden’s cognitive decline is of great concern to Americans, especially as our nation faces one crisis after another here and abroad. “We need a mentally competent president,” said the West Virginia attorney general.
For Morrissey, Hurr’s report “paints a clear picture of a president who is unfit for office.”
For this reason, he urged Harris to use an amendment that allowed cabinet members to remove the president from his duties if they deemed him incapable of carrying out the powers and duties of the office.
“Amendment 25 was designed for moments like this,” he published in the letter, where he admitted it was an “extreme measure,” urging an “examination” of the personal relationship between Biden and the vice president to objectively assess the situation. . .
If she refuses, Morrissey asked Harris to leave the decision in the hands of the nation’s attorney general, Merrick Garland.
West Virginia’s attorney general isn’t the first to speak along those lines.
On February 9, a group of Republican legislators also requested the use of this constitutional resource.
“Merrick Garland owes it to his cabinet colleagues to urge the 25th Amendment. Or prosecute Biden. If he’s not going to prosecute him, he should call 25 now,” said Senator Josh Hawley, among others, on Social Network X.
In the face of such demands, the White House defends that the mention of Biden’s cognitive state does not balance with reality, calling these comments inappropriate and asking to focus on the main conclusion of the report: that he did not deliberately take classified documents. And he didn’t share them either. EFE
