(CNN) — Two Kentucky tourists claim they were drugged and raped while vacationing in the Bahamas last Sunday.
Amber Shearer and Dongayla Dobson told CNN affiliate WLEX they were excited to enjoy their last day in the Bahamas.
“It was our worst day,” Shearer said.
According to the women, they visited a beach club on the island of Grand Bahama, where they say they were drunk and raped by two club employees.
The two women and their lawyer say they are not satisfied with the way the authorities handled their case. The women also claim they were not informed of a recent travel warning from the US State Department regarding violence in the Bahamas.
“We didn’t find out there was a travel advisory until four hours after we were raped,” Dobson said.
Attorney Nicholas Gerson, who represents Shearer and Dobson, told CNN that toxicology reports showed both women had drugs in their systems.
“There is no doubt that my clients were drugged, there is no doubt that my clients were raped, there is no doubt that there was a travel warning and they were never told about it,” he said.
In a statement, the Royal Bahamas Police Force (RBPF) said: “Preliminary reports indicate that the incident occurred shortly after noon on a beach in Central Grand Bahama. Upon learning of the incident, “our agents immediately began an investigation, which led to arrest two adult males aged 54 and 40 years.”
Police did not provide additional information about the arrests and said they were “cooperating closely with the FBI in this ongoing investigation.” The FBI confirmed that the RBPF is leading the investigation.
Now back home in Kentucky, the woman told WLEX that she is speaking out publicly to warn others.
“Be safe. Two is not a group. Don’t buy any drink unless it comes in a sealed container, in a bottle that you open yourself,” Dobson said. “We don’t want this to happen to anyone else,” Shearer added.
