Tigres dominates Gigantes and is tied for the lead with Astralus in DR

SANTO DOMINGO– Cristian Adames hit an RBI single to break a tie in the third inning of Tigres del Lisi’s 7-4 win over Gigantes del Cibao on Wednesday in the round robin of the Dominican Baseball League.

Adams became the first Lacy batter to hit an inside-the-park home run in the round robin on a four-seam fastball from Ramin Guduan in the eighth inning.

With their win, Tigres moved into a first-place tie with Estrellas Orientales who lost their match against Leones del Acido in San Pedro de Macoris with an identical record of 8-4.

Jack Thompson faced the first twelve batters in two innings, allowing five hits, two earned runs, two strikeouts and one home run.

Carlos Vargas (G,1-0) struck out one of the three batters he faced in one inning. Jaro Asensio (S, 4) allowed one hit in the ninth inning.

Antonio Santos allowed two hits with one walk and three strikeouts against ten batters in two innings.

Anderson Piller (P,0-1) was no-hit in the third inning with two hits, three runs, two earned against four batters.

With six games to play, Estrellas Orientales and Tigres del Lice are tied for first place with 4-3 records, followed by Leones del Esguido (5-7) and Gigantes del Cibao (2-9).

Severino, Navarro guide the lions to the stars

In another key, Pedro Severino and Jamaica Navarro each scored two runs in Leones del Esguido’s 6-1 win over Estrellas Orientales at Tetelo Vargas Stadium.

The Lions improved their record to 4-7, snapping a two-game losing streak, to finish third in the semifinal round robin. The Stars (8-4) lost their third straight game.

The Stars scored first with one in the bottom of the first stanza; Ferrabandoi Tatis Jr.’s grounder brought home Deron Blanco at second base to make it a 1-0 game.

In the second inning, Severino hit a home run off Johnny Cueto that lined out to left field and drove in Jose Marmolejos for a 2–1 lead.

In the third, Yaro Munoz singled to left field and drove in Starlin Marte for the third Red run.

The Lions scored in the fourth with Marte’s single, which drove in Junior Lake, now off Austin Davis.

Leon’s 5 and 6 runs came against Rafi Vizcano in the eighth. Munoz led off with a single to right and a 2-1 count, Navarro hit deep to center field for a two-run home run.

For the Lions, Cecilio Pimentel earned the win with one and two-thirds innings and his team gave up the only walk.

The loss went to Johnny Cueto, who pitched 2.2 innings of three hits, three runs, all earned, and allowed four walks, plus a home run.
