They call for eliminating the interview requirement to qualify for the SNAP program in the United States

Several activist groups called on the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) to eliminate the interview requirement to access SNAP. The idea is that those who need this essential financial assistance can qualify for the aforementioned Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program without difficulty.

Among the organizations most active in this regard are the National Student Legal Defense Network and the Center for Law and Social Policy. Members of the California Student Aid Commission also oppose SNAP interviews. Given the complaints, a spokesperson for the Department of Agriculture confirmed that the agency is reviewing the proposals.

Current SNAP recipients

It is a reality that the SNAP program provides important financial assistance to low-income families. With the money deposited monthly, the beneficiaries can buy food, snacks and non-alcoholic beverages.

It is estimated that 42 million Americans currently receive that direct payment. The median income is $212.00 USD per person or $401.00 USD per household.

Under current rules, a state agency must complete an interview within 30 days of submitting an application for the SNAP program. This will correspond to the initial certificate of the applicant; It can be done over the phone or in person.

You should know that fast-track interviews can take place over a period of seven days. Of course, only people with special needs who meet certain income criteria will apply here.

Another worker who can benefit from this structured interview is in the agricultural sector. Migrants are also eligible.

Eligible families then receive a notice stating the duration of their certification or how long they will receive SNAP benefits. Before that phase ends, the local SNAP office contacts the individual or family and provides information on how to recertify.
