With the Winter Split 2024 playoffs continuing, the League of Legends EMEA Championship (LEC) resumes at 5:00 p.m. This weekend, we’ll see the first Losers Bracket clash, which will also reveal the first teams to leave the competition. As the highly anticipated Bo5 between G2 Esports and Team BDS for the fourth round of the Upper Bracket.
The pressure will go up a notch
The LEC Winter Split 2024 enters a critical phase with the progression to the second weekend of the playoffs, a pivotal moment that will define the contours of the race for the European title and which will claim its first victim. After a first weekend full of emotions and reversals marked by decisive victories and the rise in power of certain teams, the picture of the competition has become significantly clearer, while indicating even more intense clashes for the coming days. This competitive weekend promises to be a veritable feast of strategies and classic moments, where each team will try to prove their worth and move closer to the coveted title of LEC Winter Split 2024 champion, synonymous with qualification for the Mid-Sedon Invitational.
In the first weekend, G2 Esports and Team BDS confirmed their status as title contenders by qualifying for Round 4 of the upper bracket, thanks to a display between the division’s final, tactical mastery and bursts of individual brilliance. Their journey so far is a testament to their preparation, team cohesion and ability to accept the challenges posed by their opponents. The road was less kind to the teams of GiantX, MAD Lions KOI, Team Heretics and SK Gaming, who were relegated to the losers bracket after a complicated first round. Joined by Fnatic and Team Vitality, ousted in the second round, these six teams now find themselves against the wall, in a fierce battle to survive the tournament.
Weekend program
Saturday 10 February Bo3 sees the opening of the Losers’ Bracket rivalry with two duels. At 5pm, Team Heretics will face SK Gaming, followed by a match between GiantX and MAD Lions KOI at 8pm. These Bo3 meetings are crucial: the winners will advance to Round 2 of the Losers Bracket while the losers will see their journey end in this Winter Split.
11 February Sunday At 5pm, the culmination of the upper bracket pits G2 Esports against Team BDS in a Bo5 series that promises to be epic. The winner of this duel will guarantee a spot in the Winter Split Finals, while the loser will have to fight through the Losers’ Bracket to hope for their revenge. G2 showed considerable supremacy against GIANTX and, despite a minor setback, retained their status as European champions with a victory over Fnatic the next day, thanks in large part to Brokenblade’s excellent performance on Zac. For its part, Team BDS, the Swiss team, remains steadfast in its ambitions to reach the top, as evidenced by its flawless run of 4 victories in the first weekend of the playoffs. Both teams, with their respective strengths and weaknesses, promise to deliver an exceptional Bo5, a real prelude to the big winter finals.
Monday, February 12, the Losers’ Bracket will resume with two matches in Round 2 and Bo3. Fnatic will face the winner of the duel between Team Heretics and SK Gaming at 5 pm. Later, at 8 p.m., Team Vitality will cross swords with the winner of the meeting between GiantX and MAD Lions KOI. These games are crucial for teams looking for redemption, as a loss would mean the end of their journey in the playoffs.
