This Organization of American States (OAS) condemned this Friday Ecuador is going through the violence and offered their “technical” and “political” support to the President’s government Daniel Noboa.

In a resolution approved in the extraordinary session by 33 countries Members of the organization, the OAS, supported Ecuador’s “democratic regime” and committed to “continue monitoring” the situation in the country to provide “political support” and technical assistance to the current administration.

The document was approved at a session of the Permanent Council where Ecuador’s Foreign Minister, Gabriella SommerfeldHe asked for the “resolute support” of all Latin American countries to deal with what he described as a “serious crisis and social upheaval” in his country.

“Remembering that representative democracy, in accordance with the Organization of American States and the Inter-American Democratic Charter, is an indispensable condition for the stability, peace and development of the region,” the OAS thus declared “its support for the regime of democracy in Ecuador and its institutions, its legally constituted To the government and its constitutional president, Daniel Noboa Azin.”

It affirms that “as established by the Inter-American Democratic Charter, the unity and cooperation of the American States requires their political organization based on the effective exercise of representative democracy” and recognizes the efforts developed by the Government of Ecuador. Thus, the Permanent Council “its Deep rejection of all acts of violence Perpetrated by groups linked to international organized crime in Ecuador, which have caused crises and social upheaval, attacks and damage to people, members of civil society and public and private property.”

He also assured that “Reject any violent action by identified criminal organizations that threaten institutions and the rule of law and reject any threat or violent actions that alter democratic and peaceful coexistence in Ecuador, and urged the government and people of Ecuador to “maintain a strong defense of the regime” of law and Respect for human rightswhich best guarantees peace and civil security in America.”

President Daniel Noboa, new in office and with a short mandate of 15 months, faces the challenge of governing in a politically polarized environment. The lack of a majority in Congress further complicates their efforts to tackle the security crisis.

The opposition, led by Coreismo, a movement linked to the former president Rafael Correa, adds an element of uncertainty. The group’s willingness to cooperate with the government to overcome the crisis is questionable, further hampering stabilization efforts.

Moreover, the institutional weakness of the Ecuadorian state is manifested in its inability to maintain a monopoly on the legitimate use of force. situation in Prison, converted into barracks for criminal gangsIt reveals the lack of control and effective management of the prison system.
