Ellie and Abby’s complex and intense revenge adventure returns to the PS5 format, with some interesting new features, without revolutionizing the game.

Thanks for PlayStation who provided us with media coverage and a free copy of the game for testing. Therefore the publisher/developer authorizes us to distribute and/or use extracts from the game for our production needs and does not interfere in any way with the final score.

Despite that fact, think about it Masterpiece

In 2020, the world was turned upside down in the raging debate that Naughty Dog’s most recent writing would provoke a tour de force of events, The Last of Us Part II. After a complete overhaul of The Last of Us (The Last of Us Part I) for the PS5 in 2022, the speculation of a new version of the second part of the adventure has long been on everyone’s lips.

today, The Last of Us Part II Remastered

(TLoUP2R) is finally available to us, the latter consisting of little more than a thin coat of fresh paint, with some interesting additions for fans of the game. Despite this, the question remains: was this version really necessary and is it worth it? I plunged back into this heavy and complex roller coaster of emotions to be able to give you my two cents here…

It doesn’t change the world, unless…

Obviously, the opinion presented today will in no way take into account history The Last of Us Part II, the game has already been tested in 2020 and has received a perfect score of 10/10 due to the strength of its scripting and its overall production. Ally’s relentless search for Abby will have generated a lot of ink and will certainly be extremely polarizing, especially given a tragic event from the beginning of the game, which will create constant angst for our main character. although, TLoUP2 will achieve something very important: leaving someone indifferent.

So, what does this new PS5 version of the game bring? the opposite The Last of Us Part I

, Part 2 of The Last of Us on PS5 doesn’t offer huge differences in terms of visual improvements. Of course, being able to enjoy a full 4K image now means that the game is a bit clearer and sharper, which will be easier to notice if you’re playing it on a 75-inch TV and above. Like many recent titles, The Last of Us Part II Remastered offers two graphics modes: Loyalty modeOffers native 4K images targeting 30 frames/second, as well Display modeThe latter offers an initial rendering of 1440p, upgradable to 4K upon release, and targets 60 frames/s.

Here, everything depends on your taste in terms of personal preferences. If you prefer crystal clear images that offer full 4K resolution and don’t mind a 30 frames/second refresh rate, you’ll be very well served by Fidelity Mode. On the other hand, if you want to benefit from the fluidity of 60 frames/second, the Performance mode is for you. Regardless of the mode chosen, very marked differences will be very difficult to detect. Even in Performance mode, the image quality remains almost as good as in Fidelity mode. Even when trying to compare different conditions side-by-side, it is very difficult to see the differences.

I’ve detached a close-up image of Ellie’s face from the opening cutscene to give you an idea of the subtle changes. As you can see, better clarity, image accuracy plus slight modeling changes, nothing to fall back on. Additionally, these kinds of small changes can be seen a little more easily in cutscenes, if you can paste two images together to compare. We agree that in general, no one plays with two screens for the sole purpose of seeing these small changes.

Besides these graphic aspects, The Last of Us Part II Remastered offers some minor new features that are still interesting. First, the mode No returnThe game may appeal more to fans Roguelike Only for players who prefer a simple narrative adventure. A bit in the form of an arena, No Return mode consists of a series of levels that, in order to pass, must be completed by surviving as long as possible. Each level then offers a specific number of waves, pitting us against hordes of enemies such as various infected or group members. For a short period of time, it will be possible to recover resources and rewards between waves of each level.

If we are victorious from the skirmishes, we will return to the main center, where we will be able to collect rewards that will allow us to buy other weapons and improve their capabilities at the workbench. Basically, it’s a mode that’s really fun, apart from losing everything if we die, this mode is powered by permanent death. We can then restart in the hub and make certain changes and access another level, or make certain changes to try to beat the level that was fatal to us. The only minor complaint I have with No Return Mode is that Naughty Dog had an incredible opportunity here to include a specific form of online play, which would have been very interesting and would have compensated for the fact that the studio gave up. Multiplayer Game “groups

What I really liked was the addition of three lost levels, which allowed us to play never-before-seen versions of the game, including a series of icons that could activate developer comments. What’s better is learning what these segments were for and, above all, why the team had to remove them from the final product. It’s really cool to learn more about this kind of content and the obstacles designers face when trying to put the blocks in place to deliver the game to players.

Among other interesting additions, we get “Guitar Free-Play“, a free guitar playing mode that will surely appeal to budding creators/musicians, who have achieved impressive compositions using moments in the game where we can freely play the guitar. Now the studio has now made it a more advanced mode, allowing countless chords, tones, which really gives our creativity a chance to work. And surprisingly, the controls allow for some really impressive things, although it still takes several minutes to come up with something that sounds like a tune played with a real guitar! Although this game mode is a nice addition, you get tired of it relatively quickly.

Of course, The Last of Us Part II Remastered was the perfect opportunity for Naughty Dog to make some changes to the game. The integration of DualSense features is perhaps the best addition yet, allowing us to now experience our weapons in real time. Our steps on hands, ground, grass etc. If you’ve played the PS4 version recently, you’ll be happy to know that the new version of the game now offers faster loading, which is a huge plus, especially when we want to access and import our PS4 saves from the cloud. Our PS5. Everything is done very easily and very quickly, which makes the experience even more pleasant.

So, The Last of Us Part II Remastered, is it worth it or not? To be honest with you, it depends on many factors. If you already had the PS4 version and are looking to play the game again in the PS5 version, you only need to pay $10 to upgrade. You can also decide to buy the full PS5 version outright, here it is The price is $64.99 and not $89.99 As with most new titles. Of course, for a dedicated fan of the franchise, the PS5 version is a must-have and the price will vary slightly. And even though TLoUP2R doesn’t offer that many new features, this iteration is the best version of this amazing adventure, beyond all doubt. Having done it more than four times, returning to it evokes similar feelings in me, which speaks to how The Last of Us Part II is a force of nature in terms of writing, scripting and execution.
