There is a big difference between what is real and what is real, but sometimes the line between them gets blurred. Something similar happened after Laura Bailey lent her voice to one of the most controversial characters in the gaming world: Abby.
After AB kills the game’s beloved protagonist, Joel, fans are understandably deeply traumatized. After all, no one saw it coming! However, there was probably a better way to deal with the trauma than to send hate to the person behind Abby’s voice.
In a documentary called Grounded II: Making the Last of You, Part II, Bailey opened up about the death threats she received after Joel’s death. She said the internet was full of death threats and violence against her, so she had to report the most disturbing things to the authorities. However, the worst part of it all came when Bayley’s newborn son was dragged into it all by angry fans.
Choking back tears, Bailey said:
“That’s all I saw every time I went online. Only death threats and threats of violence… the worst, the most serious death threats were given and they made sure that no one lived nearby… Yes, they threatened my son. You know who was born during all this. Yes, it was difficult. It was difficult. But, you know, more than anything, it taught me to keep my distance.
Bailey’s honesty was enough to bring tears to the eyes of viewers. However, his story is one in which the actors have to pay the price for their characters’ actions.

After an extraordinary performance of The last of usSeason 2 is slated for release in 2025, starring Pierre Pascal and Bella Ramsay. Season two will introduce a much feared character, Abby, as fans prepare for the worst. Golden Globe nominee Caitlin Dever is set to bring Abby to life, but given what Bailey has faced, Dever needs to prepare for a potential wave of hate.
Concerns aside, the casting team may have outdone themselves again with a nomination of no Amazing The actress looks perfect for her role! As co-creators Neil Druckman and Craig Mazin told Variety,
“Our casting process for season two has been the same as season one: we’re looking for world-class actors who embody the spirit of the characters in the source material. Nothing matters more than talent, and we are thrilled to have an artist as acclaimed as Caitlin join Pedro, Bella and the rest of our family.
While we eagerly await Dever to showcase his acting skills to the fullest, only time will tell how his performance is received by the passionate fans of the franchise.
