Strasbourg-PSG spectators were unable to watch Kylian Mbappé’s missed penalty live, apparently due to a production error.
An unfortunate manufacturing error? During Paris Saint-Germain’s 2-1 win at RC Strasbourg on Friday 2 February, Kylian Mbappé’s missed penalty in the 6th minute was not properly televised live on Amazon Prime Video. Instead of showing the classic shot showing the shooter and goalkeeper together, the broadcaster only offered a close-up of the world champion.
The camera focused on the Parisian striker’s gaze before going down his legs. Except at this particular moment, Kylian Mbappé rushed to shoot. Shot after shot the production reverted to a classic wide shot. But it was already too late: Ala Bellaruche had already made his parade.
Quite logically, this hiccup was widely commented negatively on social networks.
To make matters worse, and despite the disallowance of the first attempt, spectators had to wait almost seven minutes to see the full slow motion of this missed penalty. The fault lies in the succession of actions on the ground, which did not give the director time to transmit the images.
